CPD points and the Article 4 file prove different things. Here is both, per profession.

The scheme

A lawyer obtains at least 20 education points per year, and at least half must concern legal activities in a field relevant to the practice (Verordening op de advocatuur, article 4.4).

What its record proves

That this lawyer attended accredited education for the required number of points this year.

The question it was never asked to answer

Which AI systems the firm uses, which roles work with them, and what each of those roles was taught about them.

How the two work together

AI Act training that carries accreditation can count towards the yearly points, while the firm-level file records which roles took which measures. The lawyer keeps the points, the firm keeps the file.

The scheme

A (candidate) notary obtains 40 education points per two-year period, including 6 specific ethics points; the BFT supervises compliance.

What its record proves

That this notary met the two-year point requirement, including the ethics component.

The question it was never asked to answer

Whether the people around the office's AI tools, from the notary to the clerk who summarises files with it, can each recognise the duties their own use triggers.

How the two work together

The two-year cycle gives a natural rhythm: pair the point-earning training with a file that shows, per role, what the office arranged in the same period. When the law moved in July and August 2026, that file is also what tells you who needs a refresher.

The scheme

Since 2021 the scheme is output-based: no hour norm, but a yearly PE portfolio of learning goals, activities and reflection, assessed against the Nadere Voorschriften permanente educatie.

What its record proves

That this accountant set learning goals, did the work and reflected on it, in a portfolio an assessor can review.

The question it was never asked to answer

The portfolio is personal by design. It does not show whether the firm's roles around AI in the audit practice are covered as a whole, or where the thin spots sit.

How the two work together

The output philosophy actually matches Article 4 well: both ask what you arranged and whether it fits. A role-based file is the organisational mirror of the personal portfolio, and completed routes feed both.

The scheme

An MfN registered mediator obtains at least 48 PE points per three-year period, of which 18 in peer intervision; the register office checks yearly.

What its record proves

That this mediator kept up recognised education and intervision over the three-year cycle.

The question it was never asked to answer

Most mediators practise solo or in small partnerships, so there is often no organisation file at all: nothing that records what was arranged around the AI tools used in preparing and summarising cases.

How the two work together

For a solo practice the two can be one motion: a recognised AI route earns the PE points and leaves behind the record of measures in the same pass. The professional body or a collective can carry that for its members.

The scheme

A registered funeral director maintains registration with 60 PE points per three years, next to a yearly practice requirement for arranging and conducting funerals.

What its record proves

That this funeral director stayed registered: enough education points and enough practice.

The question it was never asked to answer

The sector's members range from solo practices to large providers, and AI arrives through everyday tools: transcribing family conversations, drafting texts, photo tributes. The register does not record who was taught what about any of that.

How the two work together

A sector module that carries PE points does double duty: the individual keeps the registration, and the association can offer its members the role-based record next to it, whatever their size.
