An AI register in Excel is a fine start. The question is what happens in month six.

What a living file does differently

• Systems connect to people: the register knows which roles work with each system, so which do we use becomes who is affected.
• Classification comes with reasons. Each system carries which duties apply and why, instead of a colour someone once picked.
• Training joins the same file: per role you see who completed what, and what is still open, without reconciling two lists by hand.
• When the law changes materially, the affected content is named and reviewed, and that log is public. A spreadsheet does not know the law moved.
• Every assignment is recorded with the answers and rule versions that produced it, so the file explains itself months later.
